Events
Includes various virtual programs or in-person regional events providing direct care workers opportunities for personal and professional growth and enrichment through education and peer networking.
Events will also include some public forums and strategic sessions that discuss direct care worker issues. These programs build connections with others in direct care through sharing stories, and, most importantly, knowing that direct care workers and family caregivers are a part of something bigger and greater.

Reservoir Replenishing Self-Care Retreat
in Creston – A Great Day!
Fostering Meaningful Engagement and Professional Growth Among Care Workers

Dera Aswegan, Regional Training Specialist (photo: front row, far right), attended the retreat along with several other Care Pros from Home Instead, an in-home care provider for older adults.
We had the distinct honor and privilege of gathering with Iowa's dedicated direct care workers at the serene and picturesque Southwestern Community College for the inspiring Direct Care Worker Reservoir Replenishing Retreat. Hosted by Iowa CareGivers, and Southwestern Community College, the event was a testament to their unwavering commitment to fostering meaningful engagement and professional growth among care workers.
Every detail of the retreat was thoughtfully curated, providing outstanding speakers who captivated and inspired the audience. Our exceptional Care Professionals had the invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in insightful discussions and workshops, enriching their knowledge while forming lasting connections with their peers.
Throughout the day, we focused on empowering our Care Professional team, equipping them with essential tools and resources that enhance their effectiveness in their vital roles. The atmosphere was infused with spontaneity and joy, creating a relaxing environment that encouraged open sharing of insights and strategies, all while promoting overall well-being.
We are immensely proud of our dedicated team, who consistently demonstrate unwavering compassion and commitment in their daily lives by caring for those in need. The retreat was not just a day of learning but also a celebration of the strength and camaraderie that define our community.
Here is what one Care Professional said about the retreat day:
"Thanks for planning a day all about us! I know how much effort and thought you put into a day like this! It doesn’t go unnoticed! To the treats…lunch…gifts…and conversation! Thank you for recognizing the people in this group! I had a ton of fun today, and it was awesome to share and get to know some of my peers so much more than I did! I appreciate you so very much! Hugs to you ladies!"
At Home Instead, we continue to strive and look for ways to create meaningful engagement and enhance the overall well-being of our Care Professionals. You will often hear us say, "We are people taking care of people, that take care of people."

Thanks to Indian Hills and Northeast Iowa Community Colleges for partnering with Iowa CareGivers to offer these two local level retreats to address the burnout that many direct care workers are experiencing. The agendas were full of educational programs and recognition to help give those in direct care tools to replenish their mental, emotional, and physical health.
THANKS TO FUNDERS: This project is funded in part by a Telligen Community Initiative grant to initiate and support, through research and programs, innovative and farsighted health-related projects aimed at improving the health, social well-being and educational attainment of society, where such needs are expressed.
We also thank Molina Healthcare for being a trusted partner for our caregivers and their families. We appreciate their continued support and understanding of the work we do to support those who give so much to others.
